Use common sense\u2026for placement as to the device you choose as to having it handy. Have your safety device in hand; not your pocket or in your purse. Isn’t it ironic that, when driving on our streets and highways, we tend to be more alert to where the officers are and might be rather than where criminals might be? Of course, if we are not breaking a law, then we should have no reason to be concerned about the police. Hmmm. Could speeding be a crime of opportunity? Is an unlocked door not an invitation to a thief?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

As affirmed by several Chiefs of Police, criminals are not particularly bright. While some crimes result from uncontrolled anger, most criminal acts are crimes of opportunity. Thus, it stands to reason that simply denying them the opportunity alone prevents numerous criminal acts. Be smarter than they are. BE ALERT BE PREPARED and BE SAFE because ANYONE CAN BE A VICTIM!<\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/span>Anytime! <\/span><\/strong><\/span>Anywhere! For any planned, targeted, random, or unknown reason. Many assault and sexual assault victims have reported that they never thought it would happen to them.<\/em><\/span> We are here to help decrease your risk of becoming a target and\/or victim of rape, sexual assault, and robbery. Most importantly, not only to lesson the severity but also provide a choice in tools to help you be a survivor of an attack. Many victims a year never think anything can or will happen to them. They think because living in a small town, in a nice neighborhood, have money and nice things, etc…they\u00a0are excluded to\u00a0sexual assault,\u00a0rape,\u00a0 theft,\u00a0or abuse.\u00a0Some people think because they never do anything wrong; they won’t be\u00a0a target or nothing has ever happened to them\u00a0so\u00a0they\u00a0must\u00a0be safe forever.\u00a0Some\u00a0people don’t even take the time to think about the possibility either way. In\u00a0General,\u00a0there are 3 things needed for a crime.<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
  1. There must first be a\u00a0motivated offender. There are many things to motivate an offender; drugs, money, enjoy the thrill, feel of power, illness, or fantasy to name a few.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>
  2. There must also be a\u00a0window of opportunity for the criminal planned or unplanned. Some things that could make you an easy target can be as simple as having the same schedule daily; leaving the same time every day and\/or visiting the same establishment and following the same routine and or route; going to work, eating out, go to church, shop or participate in the same activity certain days and\/ways and habits; jogging, texting, putting keys and purse in same spot, taking trash out, or even when lights are on and off in certain rooms, or leaving your garage door open, warming up your car and\/or leaving it untended. Criminals learn when to attack most successfully without the victim getting help.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>
  3. There must be a\u00a0victim\u00a0whether chosen as a target or being convenient; wrong place at the wrong time.\u00a0 Even if you are the convenient target there still reasons why the criminal \u201cchose you\u201d. The decision for you to become the target may happen in a few seconds because things are in place for the criminal. Routine makes us comfortable and complacent yet making it easier for the criminal. <\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Be Ready With Your Safety (Weapon) Device<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When using a safety device or tool\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0think of it from here on out as your weapon. It is what you choose to defend yourself against a criminal.<\/b><\/span>\u00a0Keep both eyes open.\u00a0With both eyes open, you have more peripheral vision.\u00a0 Decide where you need to go and how to use your weapon (safety) devise of choice. Think about different scenarios as to when you would make a decision to use the safety devise and then how to use it.\u00a0 Visualize using your safety device on an attacker.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

    \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be prepared. Practice to not being a victim. If you carry mace\/pepper spray\/stun gun etc… it is\u00a0useless\u00a0most of the time if you don\u2019t have it in your hand before or at the time the attack!     Many times victims know their perpetrators so be watchful for advances with over and undertones, change in attitude towards a person; especially words and actions not matching, and secrecy.<\/strong> They were victims of friends, boyfriends, co-workers, classmates, and relatives.\u00a0 That’s not always case, so tell someone such as a co-worker, friend, or family\u00a0where you\u2019re going, with who, and about the time of arrival.\u00a0 Have predesignated periodic check-in times.\u00a0 The best practices is to check-in\u00a0every time\u00a0you go somewhere. Just a quick, prearranged code, only between you, family, and\/or co-workers can be sent by text for regular check-in’s.\u00a0 Never change that habit. If you are not heard from, someone will be checking on you, or authorities will be notified a soon as possible in case there may a problem. If you are not\u00a0consistent\u00a0with this, you are more likely to be\u00a0assumed to\u00a0be fine and you \u201cjust\u00a0forgot again\u201d when in reality, you aren’t fine.
    <\/span><\/p>

    If you think you are being watched or anything<\/strong> makes you feel uncomfortable\u00a0(even if you don\u2019t know why)<\/strong>,\u00a0leave the area. When you have that feeling never assume you aren\u2019t being watched by someone or something just because you don\u2019t see it or them when you look around your surroundings.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
